These are, for example, recently aired episodes of current TV series or movies celebrating the TV premiere. Sling offers up to 53 channels, prices start at $ 20 (for the first month and one package) and end at $ 45 (from the 2nd month for both packages).

If you want to keep up with the latest TV series and are therefore interested in the offer, you should first carefully check which TV networks are represented – because unfortunately Sling does not cover everything. To be fair, one thing first: ABC and CBS networks are missing, and PBS is also missing. Other important content such as NBC, CNN, AMC and Fox are also available.

If you want to see offers on Sling.com, you’re already facing the first hurdle – a country ban. So let’s first look at how to get around this quickly. This can be done cheaply with a DNS service like Unblock-US. The route through the VPN server is more costly in the long run but also stronger; probationary periods can usually be used for the first test. Both solutions route your data traffic through US servers. Sling does not include this access channel in the terms of use.

As soon as you access the Sling website at “Sling.com”, the DNS or VPN server setup was successful and the country block was bypassed. Here you can now choose one of three packages.

In the test, Sling TV seamlessly accepted German Visa and MasterCard credit cards using a VPN server. It is also necessary to enter a postal code: If the German and US postal codes conflict, there are no problems. Otherwise, it will be possible to enter the postal code of your holiday destination.

After successful registration, streaming is only possible after installing apps on your computer, smartphone, tablet or TV. Using directly in the browser only supports sling streaming in Chrome. Android users will not be able to find the app in the German Play Store, and so they must search for an APK file on Google. IPhone and iPad users need a US iTunes account to download the free app from the App Store.

After logging into the relevant applications, you are ready to stream. Basically, Sling divides each transmitter into “Program” and “Available Now”. The first one allows access to TV programs, including direct live streaming, while “Available Now” lists content from the broadcaster / network available for streaming on demand. On-demand content is like a mini media library that updates over time and then disappears old content. Most of the time, unfortunately it is not possible to fast forward on optional content – probably because of the ads.

Meanwhile, our VPN server was not supposed to be permanently active in the test, instead it seems to be dependent on a stable VPN connection to situations during registration and login. Therefore, it can be very logical to disconnect from the VPN while streaming to save any data volume.
